Doing this Whirlpool Refrigerator Filter Replacement Installtion was so easy! In this program, I show you how to replace a water filter used in a Whirlpool® side-by-side refrigerators with filter access in the base grille. All that's needed is to simply turn the refrigerator water filter 1/4 turn to remove and replace. Replacing a refrigerator water filter every 6 months ensures clean, safe drinking water.
My GE Refrigerator at home has an inside-the-fridge water filter and is a twist and turn type. Both of these filters are very expensive but for fresh drinking water probably a lot less expensive than buying bottled water. In fact, in hot weather, I have my own refillable water jug for my Handyman work van. I take the filtered ice from the ice maker and then run the water from the fridge into the water jug.
The filters on older model fridges are installed on the water pipe behind the fridge that runs into the ice and water area. Be sure you turn the water line off before replacing that filter or you will have a mess. Some have a water shut off on the wall behind the fridge. Most have a shut off under the sink. I generally shut off both valves just to be safe. That is the cold water valve to the water in the sink and the one on the line going to the fridge. Usually this is a 1/4" copper tube.
I'VE PUT THIS IN ALL CAPS SO YOU READ IT! THE FILTERS THAT ARE BEHIND THE FRIDGE ALL HAVE AN ARROW ON THEM SHOWING THE WAY THEY SHOULD BE INSTALLED. REMEMBER TO LOOK FOR THE ARROW AND INSTALL CORRECTLY!
The other valves under the sink are the valve for the hot water and a valve for the hot water line that goes to the dishwasher. Remember the hot valves are on the left, under the sink, and the cold to the right.
