Painting Interior Walls

As I tell you in this Painting Interior Walls video, preparation is the key.home improvement paint The easiest part of painting a room is applying the paint with the roller. The tedious job is getting everything ready, taping off the baseboards, cutting in around the ceiling and painting trim. I can't stress enough the importance of buying quality paint, rollers, and brushes.I know the sticker shock of paying $15 to $20 for a good brush. You will save that in interior painting labor when painting with a good brush. Also, buying good quality paint means better coverage. The difference is $3 to $4 per gallon. A good roller loads well with paint which makes rolling and covering a smooth, not spotty, job.

Please remember good clean-up procedures for your brushes, rollers and paint trays. The first step is to do it RIGHT AFTER YOU ARE FINISHED PAINTING. For brushes, run under tepid water and use your fingers to ring out the paint. Keep doing this with the brush until water runs fairly clear without much paint. Next, pour liquid soap on the bristles and work it in to the bristles. I take the brush handle in one hand and brush the bristles into the palm of the other hand under the running water. This way the soap works on the length of the bristles and the top end of the brush doesn't get caked up with dry paint. Then, flush the brush with water and dry with a towel. Let the brush sit in the air to dry. Once dry, just fan the bristles to make sure they are free.

Again flushing the paint out with lots of water is the most important part. Towel dry and stand the roller on one end to let it completely air dry. These procedures will only work with latex, water base paint. Roller pans can be left to dry and paint peeled off the plastic later and thrown in the trash. (This is a pain but it can be done and saves money!)

As you you've seen in the video, painting is more than just slapping some paint on the walls. The end result is what you want and you can have years of enjoyment by doing the job well.
