Instructions for Installing Ceiling Fans
Instructions for installing ceiling fans are what I'll give in two separate videos. The first video gives instructions for installing an outdoor ceiling fan and the second for a Harbor Breeze Ceiling Fan put up in a bedroom. Remember though, ceiling fans are not air conditioners. Ceiling Fans don't lower a room's temperature or remove humidity. Ceiling and portable fans cool you, not the room. Used in conjunction with air conditioning, ceiling fans can save money for cooling and heating.
Before you watch the videos, here are some specific ceiling fan installation instructions that I think are important. - Install your ceiling fan in the center of the room at least seven feet from the floor (if the ceiling allows).
Eight to nine feet is optimal for air flow. - Do you have vaulted ceilings?
With vaulted ceilings, make sure you have the right type of down rod to go with the fan. - It is critical to consider what type of electrical box is in the ceiling.
If you are replacing a light fixture ask yourself, "Is the box strong enough to hold the fan?" If their is no ceiling box or you aren't sure if the box in the ceiling is strong enough to hold a fan, then get a qualified electrician to help. Most newer homes should be all right if there is a box. But it is better to be safe when it comes to electricity. - Get the right size fan for the room.
The popular 52-inch fan works best in a room that is 225 to 400 square feet. Choose the original 42 ceiling fan for smaller rooms. If you decide to use a larger fan in a smaller room that is O.K.! Just run it at a slower speed.
Ceiling Fan Tips
- Buying a ceiling fan is a matter of taste, utility and decoration.
I personally go for utility because a fan is not normally part of the decoration in the home. Again use your own taste and judgment.
- Choose smooth fan blades.
Make sure the fan has smooth blades because they run quieter.
- Do you want a light fixture/kit with the fan?
Consider if the ceiling is high enough to accommodate the light.
- Next decide if you want a remote control or to use the pull chain.
Some fans come with a remote, but if it doesn't, you can buy one and install.
