Electrical House Wiring

electrical house wiringA plus in DIY electrical and electrical house wiring is that it's not super expensive.

Let me talk about Safety. Job one.

  • Talk to your local building inspector about electrical house wiring before installing new wiring or altering existing wiring for most recent codes.

Most local municipalities follow the National Electric Code but can be even more strict! In some areas, the codes say that ALL wiring must be done by a licensed electrician. In others, you are permitted to install new circuits up to the service panel entrance but you must have a licensed electrician check you work and finish the job.

  • Also check with your local municipality if you need any permits to change or add wiring.

Some want a written proposal and sketches of your plans. You will also have to schedule inspections of your work.

  • Underwriters Laboratories (UL) is the trusted source across the globe for product compliance.

Benefiting a range of customers - from manufacturers and retailers to consumers and regulating bodies - they've tested products for public safety for more than a century. Trust only products showing the UL mark.

  • You may be afraid of being shocked when working with diy electrical; however, to avoid hazards, always turn off the power source at the circuit box by turning off the circuit breaker of removing the fuse.

Do this first before you do any work! After turning the power off, post a message on the circuit panel that work is going on and to DO NOT TOUCH or TURN POWER!

  • Make sure your hands are extremely dry before working with any electricity! Dry hands will reduce the impact of shock if you do something live.
